Compostela Summer Program for Art & Design Students
May - June 2025 • Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain
Join Us in Santiago de Compostela! This UNESCO World Heritage city, the final stop on the Camino de Santiago, combines medieval charm with vibrant culture, offering unique architecture and Galician cuisine.
Compostela Summer Program was founded in 2008 by architect Carlos Seoane and Fundación Compostela Arquitectura and is based in the 16th-century Monastery, across from the cathedral of St.Jacob. The program brings together a global faculty and students to explore traditional and modern architecture through site visits, reflections, and hands-on experiences with iconic works, fostering cultural exchange & lifelong fellowship, and adding valuable credits toward a current degree.
Join us for a summer that blends learning, culture, and adventure like nowhere else!
12-Day Guided Program
Best for English and Spanish speakers.
-
Students take indoor tours and outdoor trips to explore the historical city center and modern buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alvaro Siza (we also have a chance to meet him in person). We visit the ruins of an ancient town in West Europe, as well as modern landscape architecture, and contemporary art centers.
-
Immersive learning — sketching, photographing, and studying ancient and modern architectural details in situ, guided by architects and designers from Spain, Portugal, and the US directly involved in each project.
-
Workshops led by expert craftspeople in stone, wood, and iron introduce students to the local traditional materials of the medieval city, fostering a profound understanding of architectural and design materiality.
-
The Compostela Architecture Summer Program brings together faculty and students from around the world. College freshmen and licensed professionals take part in open talks and discussions, sharing knowledge and building connections while traveling, creating, or dining together.
The program is in English, but students also practice Spanish language.
